HOW DARK IS LEGAL?

If your unit is road-going then you must abide by the window tinting law which is no darker than 35% VLT on all windows beside the driver, 70% VLT on front screen and any level of darkness is legal behind the drivers seat. A visor strip of any darkness can be added to any windscreen providing it is within 100mm from the top edge of the glass. Silver, reflective or partially reflective window films are illegal on NZ roads. This law is for heavy machinery, not all vehicles. What is VLT? VLT refers to the amount of Visible Light that is Transmitted through the glass. To put it simply, the lower the VLT%, the darker the film/glass. As far as work-sites go, the legality is dependent on the work-site safety guidelines. Some sites may impose a strict “no dark tint” policy, although this is very uncommon and we have only experienced this once in our 18 years of tinting.

OUR ADDRESS

We have a small tint studio based at 76D Vanguard street in Nelson. Please note: We are available here by appointment only. Nick is a solo operator and offers a mobile service so is not always there. We do not have any signage or advertising at our base as we are mostly mobile, so always out and about. We do not have a waiting area at our premises but we do take bookings for tinting and wrapping to be done at our premises for those who do not require mobile service and would like to drop off/pick up their vehicle. We do offer a vehicle pick up/drop off service if required, within Nelson town only.
